Personal Utility Pouches -- Say Goodbye To Those Fanny Packs!
The term fanny pack is an eyebrow-lifter term in the United Kingdom, where it is considered a slang word. Perhaps, that is why most American tourists choose to keep their fanny bags back home whenever they travel to Britain or any other part of that Continent. They would prefer private label luggage with telescoping handles. The waist packs or also hip packs as some call them, have lumpy nylon belts and the pouches simply look dorky, most importantly, they are not really secure.
PUP or personal utility pouches are a better option in this scenario. The plain, multi-compartment, zip locked unisex pouch is intended to be less heavy and dorky than a fanny sack, and it comprises of four external pockets among which two zippered pockets to keep your sunglasses, writing pad, pen, cell phone, camera, and much more securely all in the same place.
You have the ability to wear the bag in three different ways. It can either be around your waist, over one shoulder, or even across the chest. The positions of the bag can be changed with the variable nylon strap which means you have a stronghold against purse-snatchers.
What is more from this utility bag is that it can also be quite helpful as a "Man purse." For instance, if you are wearing a jacket rather than a travel vest, this bag will keep your stuff hidden securely. With a fully extended 54" strap, you can wear this bag across your chest leaving the pouch hanging just above your waist. You can walk along with this bag hanging by your side.
This happens to be the safest position for your bag and also for your valuables kept inside. Not just secure, keeping the bag in this position is comfortable as well. However, if you are longer than an average size then this might not be the best position to keep your PUP. In that case you can choose to hang it over your shoulder.
Apart from the position, the flat and rectangular shape makes it capable of holding stuff like some pocket note pad, or even a small digital camera. But do bear in mind that the PUP is 7 by 9 inches having an 8-inch top zipper. This makes it absolutely inapt for carrying most guides, maps, and things like tourist brochures.
Zippered portions of the bag are quite secure. This is why PUP enjoys approval from the state's crime prevention program. In any case, if you are traveling to some urban destination, you can do very well with open pocket bags. They are ideal to store things like notebooks or other stuff that would not be so tempting to the thieves.
If you think it can replace a messenger bag, you are wrong, because it cannot. However, with storage space to keep camera, notebooks and other stuff, it can well be an alternative to those fanny packs or perhaps neck wallets.
For all those who wish to have a personal PUP, here is an important piece of information; it is available in nylon and microfiber. Besides the different fabrics, there is also a host of colors from which you can choose for your personal utility pouch.

are fanny packs allowed to be worn in school?
my friends i go to school with always take my handbag and hide it or something as a joke. it was funny a couple times but its annoying me now and the more i ask them to stop the funnier they think it is. i dont wanna get them in trouble so the only solution i can think of is to wear this pink checkered fanny pack thats been sitting in my closet for the past year and a half. if i have a fanny pack around my waist i figure they won't be able to take it to mess around with. i don't know if the teachers would let me keep it on though or would they make me take it off?? because if i can't wear it theyll just do the same thing
I've worn a fanny pack to school so I know they are allowed. However, I dropped my fanny pack before long because it was anything but cool and stylish. Somehow, I've a feeling that going from handbag to fanny pack will get you bullied even more because it gives bullies more of an excuse to laugh at you.
Aren't you supposed to have a locker or something like that in school where you can safekeep your things? And if you're considering switching, why not a backpack that you can strap on? There are stylish ones out there, and you can always decorate them with cool accessories, even padlocks and all.
Plus, any normal school these days should have an anti-bullying policy, and you should feel free to tell a teacher that you are being bullied. Being bullied is never right, and by not reaching for help, you're not only letting yourself suffer, you're also giving more power to bullies. On the contrary, if you do speak up and stand for yourself, you don't only help yourself, but you also empower other students who are being bullied to stand up for their rights to be respected and be at that school with peace.
Why are you so concerned about not getting your bullies into trouble, when that's all they've given you so far?
The worst that could happen is that they get expelled from school. Then they won't be around to bully you anymore. So what have you got to lose?
Even if they don't get expelled but only suspended for awhile, in the meantime you can take self-defense courses and join support groups to help you build the courage, confidence, and strategies to stand up to these bullies once they return to school.
Anyway, it's not so much about fanny packs and handbags as it is about the courage to stand up for yourself. You have the right to be treated with respect wherever you go, and that includes not having people mess with your property. High school is a jungle, but it only prepares you for real life. Learn to stand up to your bullies while you're in high school, because there will be bullies in real life beyond high school and they can do more consequential things than hiding your bag and laughing at you for it, so unless you learn to confront your bullies now I'm afraid you're setting a pattern to be bullied your whole life through. And trust me, you don't want to live the rest of your life as a doormat.
Don't protect people who don't respect you, because they certainly won't protect you from the evil things of this world. Nobody else will protect you unless you believe you deserve respect, reach out for support (like from your teachers, friends, and parents), and fight to earn that respect. Respect yourself first, and others will follow suit. Allowing yourself to be bullied is a great disrespect against yourself, and you won't earn respect from others for it.
